Cutting and splicing will still work, but you just need to figure out what's what. I usually just use a tester light, figure out what the constant hot is, connect that to your cd player, find the wire that is hot when the key is on, connect that to the cd player. I usually wire my own ground to a good ground source, and if you bought a cd player it usually addresses what it should be. Most of the time orginal speaker wires to the stereo will have a solid color and and solid color with a black stripe or some sorta stripe in it. Usually, the solid is ground, the stripe is positive.

I figure out what wires i got, and then go to wiring. I then play around and figure out what speaker wires are what, one at a time by just hooking them up to the unit while on to ones set of good speaker wires.
