Default Can't afford them

I heard on the news that a lot of people have just plain sold their cars because they can't afford them in the present economy. It's to the point that lots of municipalities are seeing much less revenue come in from registration fees.

That's sad and very unfortunate. If people are selling their cars, how are they getting to work? I bet a lot of them have lost their jobs or have trouble finding work. It's definitely a sign of the times.

Maybe it will lead to more public transit systems. I think walking, riding a bike or taking the bus are great alternative modes of transportation.

It seems to me that if people are selling their cars... then an equal amount of people are *buying* cars, else how could they sell them? I think it ends up a wash.

I do too and for the longest time when I lived in the city, its the only way I would commute. Even going out for a night on the town we always opted to carpool rather than take a single car.

While I wouldn't want to be without my car, I think that public transportation is a good thing when it's done right. I grew up in a town with a public bus system, and it was nice to know I could get anywhere in town just by dropping a coin in the box.

If someone was selling their car because it was too expensive to keep it, do you think they might sell it cheap? Maybe I will be able to find a car I can afford, after all!

Wow - I can't imagine not having a car! I can see how some people would not be able to afford a car though. Heck registration here in NY is $52 a year (car) and then the insurance costs. It's crazy!

I wished I lived in an area where I could take public transportation, but I live too far out in the sticks for it. I have to drive to catch a bus and drive to catch a train. By the time I drive to the train station and buy a train ticket, I might as well stay in my car and spend the gas money because it ends up being no shorter than driving, and no cheaper.

We recently decided to sell our second vehicle. It was only a couple years old, low miles, very clean. 3 dealers said they would love to buy it but their inventory was already too high. The 4th dealer jumped on it though.
