Default Retake License Test

Once you get your license, how often are you usually forced to take a retest on the road? Are you ever required to take the written test again?

I looked up my state's rules and they don't ever require a retest - UNLESS you let your license lapse. If you have to get a new license, then you have to take the test.

Once we get our license, we are never required to retake the driving portion of the test. We are given a retest of the written portion every 4 years when we renew our license but it isn't pass or fail, just informational.

What state is that, FB? I've been in a few different states without having had that requirement. I'm not sure I want to live in a state where I have to keep retesting.

Never here in my state. You only take it once. I think you should have to take the road test every 10 years. At least then the people who should not be driving would be off the roads.

RacecaR, it is Michigan but the test is like 10 questions and you don't really get graded. They just want to make sure that you are aware of the rules of the road. I don't mind it really.

I wouldn't mind this sort of retest either. I would hate it if I had to retake the driving portion of the test. I got a hard time passing the test.

I think that as a certain age our state requires a vision test, but once you take the initial knowledge test, as long as you keep your license renewed, there's no more tests.

I have never had to deal with this before either, now I know my mother in law had to retake it. At first she let hers lapse on accident, she was out of the country on business and it slipped her mind. She came back, redid the tests, passed, got her license again and she was set. Now she is a dual citizen so she carries a DL (or the equivalent) in two countries.
