Default Tired of seeing the same old models

I don't know about you, but it seems to me that the car companies cannot think of any original designs for cars (unless you are the super super rich). I loved how the cars looked in the 50s. It just seemed like a lot more quality work was put into the shape of cars that the average person could afford.

Why can't car companies make some more original designs for cars today? And I don't mean only having a cool shape for the prototype and then changing it for the average consumer. We are in the year 2011 and our cars don't look that different from the cars in the 80s and 90s. LAME!

I agree. The car companies need to get some imagination when designing cars and I mean some affordable imagination too. I always thought that by the year 2011 there would be some really original futuristic designs of cars. I guess the car companies are just too full of old unoriginal thinking men.

I suppose the cost of production might have something to do with it. It would probably be pretty costly to completely redesign a car rather than just improve on previous models. Plus, I think more people are interested in functionality now, with the economy the way it is.

It boils down to money. The cost of an original car is greater. Many models share the same platform for the same company. Then if a model fails with the public, they lost even more money.

But I do agree, today's cars are very bland.

It used to be that you could look at a car or truck and know which manufacturer had produced it, each major maker had a distinct style that was unique to them.

Fords now look like Hyundai's, Chevy's look like Toyota's.

It makes me long for a hood-scoop.

The new crossover models may have been an attempt to do something different as far as design. If my choice is a more traditional design or a crossover---they can keep the crossover---they are ugly.
