Default Tools For Auto Repair

I have the tools I need for basic auto repair and maintenance. If there's something I need that I don't have, I usually borrow it from a neighbor who has a lot more auto tools. What do you do if you need a tool for a job that you don't have?

I have basic car repair tools. I usually don't need tools that I don't have for the work I do myself. If there's a special tool I need, I borrow it from some auto repair guys I know.

If I need it and I don't have it, they I go to the local car parts shop and I buy it. Then I have it the next time I need it, and I build up my collection of tools to the point that I may be the guy people come and borrow from.

I am pretty well equipped now for the things that I can do and basically if I do not own a particular tool, it's because it's for a job that I cannot do by myself. In which case, I would need help anyway.

Same here, MyMotor.

The one exception was the torques bits for the water pump in my Fiero GT: those suckers had to be purchased new every time the stupid thing "went" (twice, dammit). Working on that car's engine is a nightmare, I'd have preferred to pay someone to do that job, even tiny hands like mine come out of things without skin on the knuckles.

I just recently ordered a sweet deal off Woot's website to get a mini charger sent out to me. For some reason my last one was misplaced and I would rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.
