Default Do they make you nervous?

I must admit here that I am not a motorcycle enthusiast. That said, my sister is, and it just always makes me nervous when I see her out there riding around.

I love riding on the back of a motorcycle behind a good experienced motorcycle driver. I think that's the key: the driver. I don't want a driver that hams around and takes risks. I want one that knows what he's doing and can handle any emergency situations that might arise. I know that's no guarantee, but then there's no guarantee in cars, either.

I agree about the guarantee thing. For me, it's trust in the driver, but that's the case in a car, too. I know a lot of crazy people that take stupid chances.

My sis thinks I am silly, but those motorcycles just have no staying power against a car. It feels like asking for trouble. I don't bug her about it, though; it's her choice.

I've been riding bikes since I was young and rode on the back with my dad. He wouldn't take any nonsense when it came to bikes and taught me about safety and how to avoid accidents. What concerns me more than being on a bike is the crazy people driving cars that don't show respect for bikers. Tailgaters are really irritating, since bikes can stop a whole lot quicker than a car or truck can.

I agree with you guys about the driver being the key. A good rider is a safe rider. On the road, skills are important but wisdom is more important.

What's with the driving between cars though? I could easily just be turning or switching my position and hit one of these idiots. Sorry, but that is a major pet peeve of mine. Of course, my sister doesn't do that, but if a motorcyclist wants respect, they'd better drive with respect and wait their turn in line. Most of them seem to think they have a right to cut in and through lines.

What makes me nervous is the sports bikes around here. They seem to enjoy cutting closely between cars, and doing stunts in traffic.

I used to ride a motor bike too. In my much younger days there was only the sense of adventure. It was fun to see drivers of cars getting mad at my stunts.

Age has caught up with me. Now I'm thankful one of those cars stepped on his break one careless afternoon.

Do they make me nervous? No, not really, but I do find that I try to be more watchful and more careful when they are present in traffic---absolutely.
