Default Pets on Bikes

What's the safest way to transport a small pet on a motorcycle? I've seen the basket-on-front and on-back ideas, and while I'd like something with more padding in case there's some jostling I obviously don't want to compromise ventilation.

A pet on a motorcycle? I consider motorcycles to be very dangerous. I have had a couple of friends that almost died while riding. I wouldn't want to risk the a pet. I really don't think there is a safe way to do it. Sorry!
