I'm still just window shopping, but I'm trying to figure out how much I need to save. I have specific desires - a manual transmission, for one. Is there a minimum amount I will need to start with?
Generally, the more down you pay the better because you'll have less of a payment and pay less interest on your loan. A manual transmission is good because it is cheaper. When you see new cars being advertised, you'll see a "starting at" price. That is usually a manual.
Do you have something to trade in? What type of place are you going to use to buy from - auction, carmax, local shop? The more the better is right but make sure you are getting what you need too and not just what you want.
It depends on whether you are looking at paying in full the day you get the car, what features you are looking for, whether you want new or used. To pay in full for a used car you are looking at $5000 to $10, 000.
No, I don't have anything to trade in, unfortunately. I'd like to not have to have a car payment, but if I have to, I don't want it to be too much. Sounds like I'll need quite a bit of money saved.
