For those that know about CarMax, do you think they give you a fair value for your car when they buy it or would it be best to just try to sell it privately first and use that dealer as a last resort. I have sold a car to them, but it was an old car and not in good condition. I got 500 dollars for it, but I'm not sure how they were value a newer car in much better condition. Do they have a higher trade in value if you choose that instead of them buying it from you?

I have actually never used them to sell a car before but I have purchased one from them and I love the idea that they go over even vehicle with a fine tooth comb & white gloves.

I have tried to sell a car privately before but soon after, I had to involve the services of a dealer. It might look like an easy thing to bargain at the onset but it is not as easy.

However, it is not always the case that you have to involve a third-party.
