Default The dare that became a fond memory

I worked in sales and leasing for Dodge for a while, and had one of the biggest chauvanists for a Manager: he wore that reputation among the fellas, to heck with any of the females at the dealership.

I had a customer wanting to buy a Dodge Stealth Twin Turbo AWD, there was one in the showroom with a custom-paint job that was a real eye-catcher, and after driving a few, this man wanted the one we had.

My boss not only made me drive that car out of the showroom (hint: easier said than done), he gave me 20 minutes for a specific test-drive route that would normally take me 30 minutes to do with a customer, and said if I wasn't back with the car by the appointed time, I could turn in my dealer plates at the end of the day.

I asked the fella if he got scared easily, and he said NOPE, I heard what that jerk said, go for it.

Go for it? I don't think the speedo was below 80 mph on the freeway, and I fell in love with the all-wheel steering feature in the car (over 30 mph, it kicks in). I actually pulled a 'Rockford' to park the car and hand the customer the keys.

He knew how to drive.

I kept my job.

And pocketed a commission that I could have taken a month off from work on.

That's awesome!! I'm glad you didn't get pulled over; that would have messed up the whole thing. Did he let up on you after that or was he still just as bad?

Oh, he never let up on me; the guys on the team actually told him to back off at times, he really was a crude pig.

Some of the salesmen were almost as bad, but I quickly learned that while they could "dish" it, they sure as Hell didn't like it when they got it back: for some reason, that language and crudity was offensive coming from a woman.

I had a rep for insults that didn't involve profanities but were horribly offensive.
