When something happens to your vehicle do you take it to the garage or do you try to fix it yourself?

Luckily I have someone around me who is knowledgeable about cars. I have saved a great deal of money that way.

It depends on what the problem is. There is some simple stuff like servicing the car and changing certain parts that I can take care of, but for big engine or transmission issues, I have to get to the mechanic.

We always try to fix it ourselves first. If we can't figure it out then I call my dad or my hubby's dad. They seem to know a lot about vehicles. When all else fails, it goes to the garage.

Well, I am not car savvy. If something goes wrong with my car, I will usually end up taking it to the garage unless the problems are very basic related to the spark plugs, lights, etc.

I'm so lucky to be in the auto industry, I have been since I got my first car (which used to break down monthly). I will always recommend taking it to a professional for anything more than an oil change as I have seen some major problems due to home jobs... but I think there is a lot of propaganda in regards to pricing.
