Default Do you drive with two hands?

Do you drive your car with two hands? I have been having this debate with my wife over whether our daughter needs to or not. I think that it is simply ridiculous to drive with two hands other than on the highway.

Sometimes I do, but I don't think it's necessary. I usually keep my right arm on the arm rest in the middle. My girlfriend drives with two hands. I think it's preference. I've never had an accident, so it doesn't necessarily mean you are a safer driver with two hands. It's good to learn with two when you are new and don't have much experience yet.

When I drove UPS it was always both hands on the wheel and never wrap your thumb around it. When I drive my car, it was a mix. Bad weather, heavy traffic or highways is always dual hands.

The only time I ever drive with two hands is in unsafe conditions. For example when it is raining really bad and I can barely see out the window. If your daughter is just learning to drive it might be helpful to use both hands, but if not I don't see why she should.

Don't wrap your thumb? I haven't heard that. Why not? I do drive with two hands most of the time (but not always). And most of the time, my thumbs are wrapped around.

You get a better grip if you do not wrap your thumb around the wheel. Take a pencil and grab it with your thumb wrapped around it and try and pull it out. It should be easy. Now do it again but put your thumb out so it is pressing down on the pencil. Should be harder to get that same pencil out.

Another thing is, is if the steering wheel jerks and the spokes hit your thumb, it can break your thumb. Not so much with modern steering wheels, but with the older metal or hard surface they will.

Nope - sometimes I do drive my both hands and sometimes not. Sometimes I drive with 1 hand and sometimes with my knees. I know it's not safe but it's the truth!

90% of the time I would say yes but there are a few times when I do not, however my kids will never learn of this when it comes time to teach them how to drive. I remember my drivers ed telling me the same story about the thumbs too. I wonder how many people do not know this??

I drive with both hands. I don't talk on the phone when driving unless it is on speaker phone. Still, a TON of people complained about me talking on speaker phone so I just quit answering their phone calls when I drive.
