Default Driving Abroad

We are planning on traveling to London within the next six months. I was wondering if we need to get something in order to drive there. I have heard that there is something called international licenses. I have never driving in other countries and I am a little concern especially in London where there drive on the opposite side of the road from where I am used to.

I never heard of an international license. I decided to check it out. It seems that a lot of countries will not recognize a US license. You need to apply for an IDP (International Driving Permit). It is not difficult to get. It is only $15 and a form. You need to provide passport photos and copy of the front and back of your driver's license. It is only valid for one year.
