Default How long does a car stay broken?

I have one car that has an issue in the engine that is going to be either a lot of work, or a lot of money (or both!) to fix. I'm not sure yet when that will happen. It's been a few months now. How long do your broken cars stay that way before you fix 'em or scrap 'em?

It depends on what the problem is! If it's something easy they stay broken for a few hours. If they are more complex problems they might stay broken for days. I have yet to junk a car because it was broke. I usually sell them first.

I'm not a fixer upper myself, but I don't really see the point in keeping a car around if you aren't going to go ahead and fix it up in the near future.

I don't let mine stay broken very long. If it's something serious and costly I would probably sell off the pieces to make some money for a new one.

I always love to attend to my broken car immediately I notice a problem. I have realized that the more you let it stay the way it is, the more things tend to be more complicated.

Well, if I don't have a car, I can't get to work and around, so any car problems must be taken care of immediately. It sounds like you might have multiple cars, so if that was my situation, I could be a little more relaxed on getting it fixed.

Having more than one car has the advantage that you are not going to be inconvenienced. However, I see the possibility that the broken car is probably going to be unattended to for a longer time.

The only people I have known that had to scrap an auto were those that were totaled out by their insurance and its not worth a lick to fix. Have you had any quotes for the engine yet?

Well, I need my car. I don't have any "extras". So, when it breaks down, it has to be fixed, ASAP! I just try to keep it maintained, so it doesn't have any problems due to neglect.

Yeah, one guy says he can do it for $100, but I'm not sure that it will really work out that way. You know how things are always worse than one thinks.
