Default Interesting idea

A friend of mine just replaced his tires. He wanted to store the old ones in my garage. When I asked him why he said that if an economical collapse were to happen and you couldn't get tires, they would be nice to have! Do you think that is wise or just paranoia?

Well, having an extra set around does come in handy if a tire blows or something. Still I think that kind of thinking leads to unimaginable clutter.

I'd suggest he doesn't want to pay the enviro fees for getting rid of them... and what, he won't keep them when he sells the current wheels?

I found studded snow tires in the basement, to my FIL's 1962 Galaxy... the car had been gone since the mid-70's, but I had the damned winter tires for it, filthy and taking up space in the basement. Given the age of them, they were useless, and WE paid the enviro fees to dispose of them.

That's pack-ratting syndrome, in my opinion. 'Sorry.

Don't say sorry. That is why I was asking here. My garage is full of stuff, however that is with tools for car repairs and for my job (in construction). I really do not want to add useless junk to it. He was trying to convince me we needed it, nut now I know why. I think it is a pack rat issue. Thanks guys.

A few questions...are the old and new tires the same size...are they in decent condition...and will they fit any of your vehicles?
If the answer is "yes" to any of these, it might pay to keep a couple for spares.

I think it's a fine idea if the tires are in decent shape and if there is room. I wouldn't really think to do it because I hate owning clutter and I admit to running my tires until they are no longer in decent shape to save sometimes.

I do not think having spares is a bad idea. However, they are his tires and it sounds like you do not really have the space for them. If they fit your car would he let you have them to use? If not, you might have to say no just because you already said you don't have the space.
