Default Mildew

If you have ever left your windows down, and got rain inside your car, you probably know how bad it can smell afterward. It smells like mildew, and I am sure you get mold and mildew deep down inside the seat cushions. Can that type of mold be harmful to you after time?

Probably if you don't clean it and you keep breathing it in. Are you having a problem breathing when you are in the car for long periods of time? I would try to clean the area.

I am lucky to have never had to experience that, I would be freaking out. I am without a doubt a neat freak and that would just drive me up the wall. Even the washing machine in my house gets cleaned out weekly and its a washing machine!

I am sure it could harm your health if you spend a lot of time closed up in your car. I have never really had that problem myself but I have seen it happen to other people. I have seat covers so they usually take the brunt of any rain seepage and then I just take them off and dry them in the dryer.

Yes, I should probably get some seat covers. That would help a lot. And I was thinking about using Scotch Guard to spray the seats.

Thankfully, I've never left my windows down (unless I'm in or working on the car). I would probably first spray Lysol on the seats, carpet and anywhere else water (and therefore, mildew) could have been. Let that dry completely then spray some Fabreeze all over everything. If that doesn't work, you may be in for new seats and/or new carpets. Good luck!
