Default Shopping around for car insurance

I have been considering doing some shopping around for car insurance. Is it really worth the effort to try to find better rates? Any good resources out there to make it easier?

A friend of mine recently did some insurance shopping for all his insurance---cars, house, boat. He ended up saving $700 a year. He didn't get all his insurance through just one company either.

I shop insurance rates at least once per year. I think I'm getting a good rate now, but you never know. A year from now, another insurance company might have a better rate. Of course, it has to be a well-known and reputable insurance company.

When I first got my license, I was on my parents' insurance. When I went out on my own I switched to my own policy with the same company. They have always given me great customer service, they are awesome to deal with when I have a claim, and the rates have either stayed the same or had very minimal increases each year. They are also great about answering questions about what coverages I need and don't need.

My friends who pay less with other companies have nothing but trouble when they have claims, and complain constantly about how hard it is to reach someone, to get calls back, and that their "great rate" doesn't last for very long.

I have not shopped around, so I don't know whether I could save with someone else. Until this company gives me a reason to be unhappy with their service, I will stick with what I know is a great company.
