Default Speaking of gas....

Just a friendly tip to the automotive noobs, please don't drive your car with a low fuel tank if you can avoid it. When you let your fuel level get too low, ant gunk, grime, or dirt that is in your tank (and trust me, it finds its way in there) will be passed to your fuel filter. This means not only is there a good chance you will run out of gas, but there is also a good chance you will need to replace your fuel filter sooner than expected.

I've been doing my best to teach the wife this. Fill up at 1/4 a tank, not when the light comes on. She still does not listen.

Yeah, we keep meaning to fill up when it hits half a tank, but something about knowing there's still enough in there for now, combined with a lack of cash, means we still end up nearly empty to often!

I know the feeling, but this is how I got on track with that. I just held back $20 in my glove box one week and pretended it didn't exist. the next week I put gas in just like normal, half a tank plus the extra $20. From then on I treat half a tank like empty. You could do it with 1/4 of a tank also, I just prefer half.

That's really interesting. I didn't realize it was so important. I will definitely be passing this information on to my friends. I've also heard that when your tank is more than half full, you get better gas mileage.

I have never heard this before. This is good info. Thanks for passing this along. I think I will keep mine no lower than a half a tank.
