Default Toyota recall issues

What do you think about Toyota statement in January, that they planned to recall 2.3 million vehicles? And that's just an additional recall after they announced the other recall to fix the acceleration problems.

I think that it will really hurt the company. I can't see anyone purchasing a Toyota for a while, I know I won't. Those are some pretty bad recalls that are causing serious injury!

I heard a conspiracy theory that the Amercian Government has blown those Toyota safety recalls into media chaos to impact their sales, thus driving GM sales up (after their $50b bail-out).

That's true. It will really hurt even for the gigantic companies like Toyota. I read that Toyota doesn't even participate in the F1 Championship anymore this year. I don't know if it has something to do with the massive recall.

Toyota announced that they won't be competing in F1 even before the recall was issued. The reason why didn't join the F1 is because of the economic problem.

This will hurt Toyota more. I can see that their sales will go down this year. I just don't know how they are doing in other countries though because I think the recall was done only in North America.
