Default Used Cars Owned By Ladies Sell Higher?

I'm not sure I understand this, but have you heard this before? Someone whispered this to me during a drink with friends. I didn't give this much thought, until a lady offered to me her car for what I think was a higher than I expected. Among her first selling points was that she would introduce me to her mechanic. I thought that was very considerate of her. Not all private sellers would say that. But, hey, would most ladies say that?

I've never heard that, and I'm not sure why it would be true (if, indeed, it is). Most people, when car shopping, are going to look at the value of the vehicle, regardless of the gender of the seller/owner.

Hmm, I have never heard of that either. I don't suppose car buyers ask if the owner was a lady or a man. I wouldn't care less. For me I would be more concerned with the performance issue of the car.

Actually I have heard about the rumour also, though I am not sure if it's true or not. One of the reasons is that a woman normally drives her car more carefully than a man does.

I don't think the claim is based on the real facts (I mean a woman driving more carefully). With those scratches and dents on her car, I don't think my sister drives so carefully.

@Fanbelt That's what I was told, exactly. From the reactions of Chaotic, Fiat and Max I can see I'm not alone in my disbelief. I think this is one case of stereotyping. Still, it's amazing that use car agents are the ones telling me that.

I guess if the lady was a good enough sales person and she could talk you into the price she wants. As far as buying a used car on a lot that was owned by a woman, I don't think it makes any difference.

Look at the statistics. I hate to say it guys-but women are safer drivers. Read this article; http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16698153...ience-science/

In short-men do more stupid things when driving. They driver faster and more aggressively, and are more likely to drink and drive. Men have a 77% higher chance of dying in an accident than women, in a study where risk was adjusted by miles driven to make it fair.

All told-that means I know I'd rather buy from a woman any day.

Those are interesting facts MM. I believe that generally women are safer drivers. It reminds me of a joke that in an intersection, a woman would stop her car though the traffic light is still green while a man would still run his car when the traffic light has turned to yellow.

Well yeah, that seems to be about what the situation is. Men take more risks-women are more cautious so get slammed as 'bad drivers' because they don't have a lead foot and may slow the man behind them down a little.
