Default Cash for Clunkers

Chinese adopting Cash for Clunkers seems like a good idea if we can do it why cant others? I wonder how many other places besides the US and those officials in China had thought about this before it caught on. I just read something on it from a RSS feed but did not catch the entire write up.

What's cash for clunkers? I am assuming you get paid for your old cars. Is that a government run company or some kind of commercial business?

Some of the local dealerships do "push, pull, or drag" sales, whereby an old vehicle is guaranteed $1500 on trade in on a new or used vehicle ... and I'm all for it.

There is a place down the strip that is doing some weird deal. They are trying to guarantee a certain percentage I think of what your car will devalue by when you drive it off the lot. The thin is they are taking that % and will add it to your next car that you buy with them when you trade the old one back in.

HA! Chillen, most vehicles lose 20 - 25% of their purchase price as soon as they're on plates on pavement.... literally. Any other numbers are "fabricated" to suit the situation, and making numbers "fit" is a sales rep's expertise.

I smell a little fancy accounting.

That is some fancy accounting. Around here there are some programs but people are desperate for easy, fast and cold hard cash. Because of that most people call a junker out who comes and gets the car and pays them the scrap metal price.

I am probably wrong but I thought Cash for Clunkers was some kind of government rebate program. Like you donate your car to charity and get to deduct it from your taxes or get a tax credit.

Your not wrong. The US has both a rebate program and gives you the ability to tax deduct it. One is Cash for Clunkers and the other is just a deduction for giving to charity.

Math mathematicians doing what they do best I guess! I can not believe how many places are going under now, maybe that is what these places are afraid of?

I was thinking about using the Cash for Clunkers program when I got rid of my old car. I could have got more money doing that program, I think, but really my goal was just to get rid of it. It sounds really helpful though. I like it.
