10,000 of these little bad boys will be coming off the roads tomorrow because the owners didn't apply for a smartcar-based permit. The auto union is protesting because they say they hadn't heard anything about the need for this permit. What a massive removal of some people's livelihood at such short notice!
Ouch, sounds like the government might have had that planned if they really didn't know all those drivers know. They did something like that to the taxi drivers in my area once; it was definitely not a pretty sight for public transportation the day they protested!
There is talk of strike and all kinds of unhappiness. Still, those things are pretty sweet. They don't have any doors but I can see myself zipping around town in one of those! We will see how this unfolds.
I've never been in one of those machines, but I have seen pictures. Considering the heat in some areas of India, and the lack of air-conditioning in most taxis, I would think the ventilation (no doors) of these vehicles must be nice. Although according to friend of mine, the traffic jams are horrendous, and then people must just about roast!
