Default New Bill For Regulating Tow-truck drivers/owner

This may only be interesting for those who live in Ontario Canada. An MPP (that is a provincial member of parliament, similar to a member of the state assemblies in the US) has announced he will re-introduce a private members bill to require the tow-truck industry to self-regulate. Currently, tow-truck operators/drivers/owners can almost, charge whatever they want if you need to use them.

Are tow-truck operators regulated (i.e. prices, services etc) in your area?

I am in Atlanta, Georgia. I really don't know how the tow truck drivers operate. From my experience, though, whenever I have needed a tow, the cost has generally been from $50 to $75 a tow.

Tow-truck drivers here are their own separate private business and unregulated, but it is a small community and that keeps them from charging too much more than their competition or charging two customers differently, because word would get around. Most businesses are kept in check this way around here.

I live in a city of over 4 million, and I really hope this new legislation goes through. Often if there is an accident on one of the freeways, there is of course a traffic jam. And then you get up to the accident, and the real problem is the tow-truck drivers. Two have come racing to the scene, and they are fighting over who gets the call!

Around here a tow is $50 - $75 as well. I use triple AAA though, I get four free services. I can have four tows if I want them.
