Default Driving and fertility

Do you think too much driving affects your fertility? I remember I read about this somewhere, but I don't remember how. If so, how about those who "live in their car"?

I've never heard of this before, but you never know, there could be some truth to it... lol. Perhaps it's the way we sit in the same spot for too long?

First I have ever heard this before and no I do not believe it. I have a couple of truck driver friends and they are on the road all the time. They have kids! Sounds like a bunch of junk to me.

Seriously? I've never heard of it either and I don't believe it either. It sounds pretty silly, I mean what would be the cause of the fertility problems (sitting too long)? Very odd and I bet it's not true.

I actually have come across this before. Scientists have proven that testicular overheating when a man is seated for long periods of time, made even worse with heated car seats, affects fertility in men. It was also found that any occupation that involved spending a great number of hours driving took them longer to conceive. Also, sperm counts of professional drivers were lower and that the sperm itself contained more abnormalities. If I could find the links to the original studies I would put them here, but I do know that some of this information is from a study by New Scientist magazine.

It doesn't stop with driving, though. Sperm quality is also detrimentally affected by high exercise intensity and volume...

I have ever heard about it and thanks TA for the information, you make it clear here. I believe there is some truth to it. Though, it wouldn't stop me from driving either.

TA nailed it-and honestly, using a laptop computer on your lap, without a cooling fan underneath is just as bad. Anything is bad for you when you do too much of it.

So it affects only the male drivers? I thought, "how could it affect fertility?" as I was thinking about it from a female's point of view. That means lorry drivers who cross countries are higher risk? Interesting. I'd like to research more about this.

Good question LDriver. If the report about testicular overheating was true, I wonder if it would affect women also because reproductive organs of women are located at different places than they are of men.

That is an interesting question. I'd say that women wouldn't be affected as much as men, but there's still a possibility that sitting for long hours in the heat while driving may have some affect. If I come across any references to this I will post a link here and share it with you all.
