Default Snow Tires or Studded Snow Tires

What is the difference in traction of snow tires and studded snow tires? I live in an area where I have to drive up and down some hills on a gravel road to get to the main road. I want the best traction possible.

I've never used studded tires, but I buy the best snow tires I can. I haven't had any trouble getting up and down hills with them on my front-wheel drive car. Just drive sensibly.

I have never used studded tires either. I imagine they provide a notch better traction than snow tires. 4WD-Low plus snow tires have worked great for me in snowy, hilly conditions.
