Default Better gas mileage

Is there anyway to get better gas mileage in a vehicle? Do you think if you use premium gas that you will get better mileage? My new car is not that great with gas mileage. I drive about 18 miles each way to work (non-highway). My last car I was getting around 32mpg and now it’s more like 26mpg.

Back when the gas prices had been at their highest, a local paper did an article about a special attachment you could add to your engine that helped to increase gas mileage. I don't remember exactly what it was because it was a little expensive, and I wasn't in the market for it. I guess if you could increase your MPG by 5 or 10 miles, it would pay for itself over the life of your vehicle.

Being conscious of your driving habits it one place to start. When I really started paying attention, I realized I had my foot on the gas pedal a lot more than I really needed to.

I know a guy who said he gets 57mpg with his bike and he said even if its cold he will ride into work on the back of it to save on the price of gas. I could not imagine driving in the winter time with those low temp's just to save some money at the pump!

I personally doubt that the octane measurably affects the miles per gallon. I have heard there are adjustments that can be made to increase mpg, but I don't know what they are.

Premium gas won't do anything for your gas mileage, but it will take a bite out of your wallet. Make sure your tires are correctly inflated (28-32 p.s.i.), the engine is running as it should (no missing, backfiring or pinging) and the oil is changed every 3000 to 5000 miles. Oh, and check the air filter. A dirty one can use up to 10% more gas.
