Default Doing your own tune up?

Can someone list out for me everything I should cover while doing my own Tune-up. I know I need new spark plugs, new wires and the oil change. Should I need to do anything else?

I have a feeling that if you are not sure, you might be better off taking your car to someone who does this for a living, especially if your car is a newer model.

There are smaller things that I have the confidence to do alone but some tasks are just a little too much for me to handle. That or I do not have the proper tools for the job and they cost more than I want to spend and sometimes its just easier to pay someone to do the work.

After doing some searching I was able to find a good list of items that you should consider doing every 30k miles. If you are unsure about how to do any of these I am sure you can find some good tutorials out there on the net. Anyways the list I saw suggested these items

-Replace fuel filter
-Change spark plugs
-Check and replace worn belts
-Check all fluids under hood
-Change Oil & Oil filter
-Clean battery terminals if necessary
-Replace air filter

I know there are many other things you can do for a tune up, but these are relatively easy and will get you started.

I know I have no talent to do my own tune up. I thought that my husband would be good at it, but he just admitted that he was never inclined to work on cars. I am hoping one of our boys get the auto bug so we can have free tune ups later one. :-)
