How frequent do we change the tires? Do we need to wait for the thread to be thin before changing the tires or is there a schedule that we must follow in changing tires even though the tires are still in good shape?
You should change tyres when the tread is balding or scalloping (balding at the edges). Every car and person drives differently so we could never determine a regular interval.
We change the tires every year (winter tires on in the winter). Then in the Spring it's the all-season tires. When the tires shows wear then they are recycled and we get new tires. I believe we get 2 possibly 3 winters out of each winter tire.
I tend to change them just when they need it. They should be checked regularly to ensure that they are safe of course, but I wouldn't ever set an arbitrary amount of time in between changes.
I think rotating the tires can help with decreasing how often you need to change them. I see some people on the road with almost no treads and I feel like pulling them over to tell them they should change their tires, but that isn't my place.

I only change tires when the tread is almost bald. I don't wait for it to be completely bald before changing it.
Yeah, I rotate the tires too. It really makes them last longer if you do. Wear on the front can be vastly different than wear on the back and vice versa. I try every other oil change to rotate tires front to back.
