Is it true that if you run your car on under a quarter of a tank of gas you could be endangering your fuel pump. My husband keeps telling me this and I think he is crazy!
We had to change my fuel pump about a year ago.
I try not to keep my fuel that low, but on occasion it gets there. I have never heard that it hurts the fuel pump. I would certainly like to know the answer to this one.
That's strange; I had never heard that! I always fill my tank up to the top, let it run down to close to empty, and then refill to the top again. I guess I should be refilling at the quarter tank mark instead?
That is just what I was told and my fuel pump did crap the bed... so I'm willing to bet it might be true. Something about the pump is sucking up the dirt and rust from the bottom of the tank?
Yup! The fuel pump can suck up the dregs in the bottom of the fuel tank and it will kill it dead as a doornail. You should always keep at least a half a tank of gas anyway. I know fuel filters are supposed to keep this junk away from the fuel pump but they aren't fool proof.
