Default Keyed Car

My car got keyed two weeks after moving into my new apartment one night. A vulgar statement was keyed all across the trunk. It happened to one of my neighbor's car as well (2 parking spots down). Not a clue as who did it and the insurance company would not cover the cost of most of the damage done. I had different garages look at it and they said it would cost me $800! All I want is the trunk repainted but no one will do that, they keep saying I have to have half the car repainted so that the paint matches. I told them I don't care if the color is off a little, I just want the trunk repainted, but they refuse to do that.

Why won't a shop just color the trunk of my car? I don't care if it doesn't match as well, it is better than having that junk keyed into my car.

Could you possibly get some touch-up paint from WalMart or somewhere and repaint the trunk yourself? If it doesn't matter to you if it matches exactly, that might be the more cost-effective way to go.

I think the touch-up paint will only work if the scratch marks are not into the metal, otherwise you are going to need some type of filler too and that could be why your estimates are close to the thousand dollar range. How deep are they?
