Molasses bath for rust removal
Has anyone tried this? It's supposed to be very good for removing rust from steel parts. You place the part/s into a solution of 1 part black molasses to 3 to 4 parts water (though this can vary; the less the concentration of molasses the longer it will take), keep it in a warm place and stir it occasionally. Then after several days, the part is reduced to bare steel that it looks like new. It will begin to rust immediately after removing it from the solution, however, so use phosphoric acid or similar to stop the rust from setting in again.
I've got my jar of molasses but I haven't actually tried it yet in a solution, though I did try putting a bit of molasses on a rust spot once and it stopped the rust in its tracks, turning the area black and inert.
