I was talking to a buddy of mine and mentioned that I thought I would rotate my own tires. He said I didn't have the right tools. I thought tire rotation just involved moving the tires. Am I wrong?

Do you have a car jack and a jack stand? If so then you have the right tires. Some people get confused. Rotating tires is just that. He might be thinking about balancing the tires which takes a balancer.

Yeah, the tire rotation itself is just about getting the more used front tires on to the back of cars. Also since we tend to make certain kinds of turns more than others to put them on the other side of the car. Just makes them last longer.

I rotate my own tires with no problem. The reason it is front to back is because most cars are heavier in front so the wheels wear faster. If you put them in the back they won' t wear as fast, it evens them out.
