Default Difference Between Wax and Polish

Polish removes imperfections (scratches, swirls, etc.) from your cars paint and makes it shine. Wax seals all that hard work and shine in. If you have a car with a dull paint job, wax won't help it, you need polish.

Thanks for this Honestly I didn't think much about the difference until now. I also realize that I what I buy most of the time is the wax, not the polish.

Can the polish really remove scratches and swirls? How? Just curious.

I have never been too savvy about waxing or polishing the car. I am hoping that my teenagers get excited about getting the car clean so they can use it. Let's see how the bribery works.

Min, yes it can. Polish contains, well, polishing compounds, which are really fine pieces of grit (much smaller than a grain of sand or salt). These help remove imperfections and impurities from the paint. Then you seal all that in with a coat of wax.

This is really absolutely enlightening. Now I wonder why nobody told me about this. Or maybe I was not listening

How frequently do you polish? Would it be the same as you wax your car? or less frequently?

I wax my car about 3 to 4 times a year. I might polish my car maybe every 2 to 3 years. You don't want to polish a car too often, because polishing takes a very thin layer of paint off. Hope that helps.
