I am thinking about having a paint job done. I am trying to decide if I should do it myself or if I should have it done. What does a typical paint job cost?

They're pretty expensive, that's all I know. At least $500. If you have the proper equipment, the time, and an eye for detail. I'd do it myself.

Yeesh, I'd love if I could find a decent paint job for $500. To be fair, though, even the most detail-oriented car owner who tries to paint themselves is likely to make small mistakes that turn out big when the tape and plastic comes off. It depends on how badly you want the paint job and how determined you are to get quality!

You can get into the low XXX range if you wait for sales at places like Macco. I know to get a better quality job from a local person cost around $1000 a few years back. Not sure what they would charge now.

If you do it yourself, prep is extremely important. Like Tuner said, a small mistake can turn into a big flaw. You really need the right equipment for doing that type of stuff.

Now I have seen people use spray paint to paint their cars. And I've also seen people Rhino their vehicles, Yes the spray in bed liner stuff. If you are ok with it, then go for it. Primer is a popular color for some areas around here. But then again, so is duck tape to hold things together.
