Default Plastic Rug Covers

My mother was griping today about how her husband bought her plastic carpet covers for her new Jeep; she said she likes the carpeting so much and the plastic looks so cheap. She's using them out of niceness, but I can see where she's coming from. Do you use plastic covers?

I don't mind them, especially if my car is new. I want to keep the rugs looking nice and clean as long as possible, and the plastic doesn't have to look cheap if you buy the ones that fit right.

For a minute there, I thought you were talking about plastic floor mats. I don't think I've ever seen anything that completely covers the whole entire carpet. Do you have a picture of this "plastic rug cover?"

Sorry for the confusion; I am talking about plastic floor mats. The ones that are big enough to cover the carpet floor mats that come with the vehicle are what my mother got, and she doesn't like how they look.

Oh, okay, I got ya now. No, I don't like the plain plastic or rubber ones myself, but I do like the carpeted ones. They do make the carpet in your car last so much longer and look so much better.

Plastic carpets have their own place. If you're living in area that's muddy or wet I think they're perfect. But when the sun is up and the grounds are dry, you can do away with plastic carpets.

So, why not keep both?

P.S. Just an extra thought. Why don't your mother tell her husband about how she feels about the plastic carpets. It doesn't look right for her to use it against her will just to be nice.

I think the floors of all cars should be covered with something. The carpet in a vehicle will wear out quick when nothing is there to protect them. It's cheaper to replace floor mats than it is to replace the carpeting in a car.
