@ Alexis- You buy the receiver if you have an older car that doesn't already have it integrated in the sound system and then subscribe to the service. When you pay for the satellite service your system is unlocked and you can hear it, sort of like satellite TV. When you stop the service the signal is no longer sent to you. You are the owner of the radio, it just won't work unless you subscribe to the system.
