Bikers of yesteryear

What bikers of the past stand out for you as having whetted your interest in motorcycles all those years ago? Was it all those beach movies where the bad boys drove up on their rides? For me it was the bad boys of the 1950s, like Grease, with their cigs tucked into their rolled up t-shirt sleeves.

Tom Cruise

With me, it has to be the Kawasaki Tom Cruise rode in "Top Gun." What a contrast to what he piloted in the air, but his ground ride was a-okay, too.

I'm thinking James Dean and even Marlon Brando, but that does go back quite a way, doesn't it? I've always associated bad boys with bikes. I grew up with Evel Knievel and all the old chopper movies.

Tom Cruise was the bomb

Oh, I remember watching that movie, "Top Gun," for the first time. The theme song is as clear as a bell in my head. "You take my breath away," and Tom Cruise certainly could do it back then. It's too bad his real intellect and charm came to light later and the pretty boy is so on the surface.
