Large Rims?

Lately, I have seen some cars that have just a little tire and a lot of rim. It kind of looks like a bicycle tire on steroids. Is this a "for looks" thing or do they perform better than regular tires?

When I see the big rims on little tires, the car is usually what a friend of mine calls "pimped out." I would say it is for looks, but I'm not sure either.

Strictly for looks. You ever rode in a car with those tires? Pretty rough. I like some rubber between me and the road. Those big rims are for the "cool" crowd.

It's for looks. Rubber that thin simply can't be good for a smooth ride or longevity. I was never a part of that crowd and, even if I had the money, I wouldn't waste it on things like that.
