Service center closings

More and more auto service centers are closing in my town. It's getting harder to find someone to work on your car, too, who knows what he's doing. Is this happening other places? I know we're in a really tight economy, but I would think people had to have their cars serviced.

Nope, we still have quite a few auto shops in my area. I think most people are fixing their own cars or taking them to the dealership to get fixed. It's amazing that so many smaller shops are still around in my neck of the woods.

We have quite a few shops in my area but most of them are larger chain shops. I think that a lot of people are doing the minor maintenance like oil changes things themselves more often now that times are tight.

My favorite center did close, but it was because it was a family run business and the father had only girls, but no one to run the shop when he retired. I've since found another shop, but it's not as good as the old one.
