I have a 2000 Ford Taurus with the 24 valve Duratec engine 200 hp. It had lots of power but not now. In city driving it works fine but when you crowd it the rev counter goes way up like four grand but it takes a long time for it to reach maybe 80 kliks (50 mph) The tranny shifts fine with no apparent slippage, it's just on high end performance the power just ain't there. Could it be the converter is plugged or a weak fuel pump? Also what drives the tach?
Where does it get it's information? This is my first posting and I want to see if someone can help . Suggestions? This is a well maintained one owner car with 176,000 km's on the oddo.

How do you test the fuel pressure required under load?
Surely somebody out there must have some ideas.
