Tire width

How does tire width affect vehicle performance in various conditions? Are wider tires better than narrower tires, or vice versa? Or does it just depend on the driving situation?

I think it depends on the road and the driving situation as well, but generally the wider wider the tires, the heavier load you car can take.

A wider tire gives your car better grip on dry pavement, but gas mileage suffers. Too wide, and tires may rub the car's body, damaging the tire. Narrow tires are better for traction in winter weather, but go too narrow and you're creating a safety risk.

From what I've heard, I'm pretty sure, the thicker your tires, the better your car will do in the snow. This is always something to keep in mind and also the traction factor is a major deal.
