Coolest Car Sticker You Ever Saw

Car stickers expose a lot about the person driving it. One car sticker said, "Honk me a 73." I happen to be a Ham (an amateur radio operator) that's why I knew what that meant. It meant, say hello to me by honking your horn this way long-long-short-short-short pause short-short-short-long-long...

Do repair your own car upholstery?

This article is very useful: http://www.autosupportforum.com/repair/car-upholstery-repair-tips/ Do your repair your own upholstery? I think it would save some real dollars if you known how to do it. The alternative to this is to dress up your car seats with seat covers, which should be easy...

    Strictly Either 1.4L M/T or 1.6L A/T

The person I was talking to in a car display in the mall was a salesman. He couldn't explain to me why his company is selling only two versions of the sedan: either a 1.4L M/T or 1.6L A/T. I asked if I can have a 1.6L M/T. He told me sorry they didn't have that. Any idea why a company would...

    Coveralls as Motorcycle Outfit

I have this friend who uses his motorcycle in going to work. Some days he wears a cover all, with his suit under it. This reminds me of spy movies, LOL! But it's a cool thing to do when what you've got is a bike, isn't it? If gas prices keep going up, more and more people may do this.

My car radio plays music from my phone

I bought a mobile phone two years ago and I still like it now. It can store lots of music in its 4GB mini-SD card (along with the pictures I take from its 5-megapixel camera) and then transmit that music to my car radio at a certain radio frequency. Because of this I don't feel like much need...

    GPS City Maps

GPS city maps used to be a "James Bond" thing that people see only in the movies. Now it's all over. I don't know how many people actually use the maps and how reliable the devices are in finding houses. Secondly, do the maps in these GPS devices get updated? Are the updates free? or do people...

    LPG-fueled Cars

LPG-fueled cars are now everywhere. For as long as the terrain is flat, oftentimes I don't know the difference. But for a few, the smell of LPG gets into the car. I don't understand how that happens. Leaking joints? Punctured tubes? A hole in the car's body? If so, come on, don't these...

Baby Shampoo vs Salt on Your Car

I have found this interesting "How To" about removing the salt from your car without having to spend $5 to $10: http://www.ehow.com/how_2194506_car-winter-cheap-easy-way.html Has anyone done this? That article's lengthy, but generally, the procedure looks simple and very doable.

Small cars vs Buses in Busy Streets

I saw an economy size car (my friend calls it a toy car) get slammed at by a bus in a busy street. The rear part really got smashed. It was dusk. Of course, the bus driver was not careful. But to me, part of the reason is its color -- dark blue. I was thinking, had it been white or anything...

    Sad Things Happening in Egypt

Have you read about Egypt lately? The government has shut down the internet to prevent people from tweeting and updating each other about what's happening down there. Foreigners are now paying big bucks to get out of the country via executive jets.

    Dimming Lights

A car I met one evening in a country road didn't dim his lights in time. When he finally did, I already slowed down as a precaution against something I may not have seen ahead of me. How far ahead from the approaching vehicle should one dim one's lights during an evening drive along a two-way...

    Convex mirrors on cars

I've seen cars that add convex mirrors on their side mirrors. See image below: I think they're pretty cool. Has any of you used these kinds of mirrors? What's your experience? Have they helped?

    Your Car Jack

What car jack do you have in your trunk? I have a crocodile jack. It's a bit heavy, but it's the most convenient. My brother prefers the scissor jack.

If cars can float on air . . .

If cars can float on air, suspend themselves some 30 or 40 meters above the ground, then run from there, I wonder how the traffic would look like. You may say it would be like the Star Wars movies, but I think not. There would be no need for tires, certainly. But then perhaps every driver...

Reusing a Torn Out Side Mirror

A small accident tore up my side mirror. I was calculating in my mind the cost or replacing it with a new one when I picked it up and realized it was intact -- mirror and casing. All I needed to do was reattach it to my car with epoxy. I had to manually adjust its bearing, but, so far, so good...

    Corroded battery platform

A car in front of me stalled and I attempted to help him. It was an old car. It turned out that the platform on which his battery rested was made of GI sheet crafted by his mechanic. This platform got corroded. It gave way, thus disconnecting the battery from the engine. Like a typical McGyver...

    Starter lockout

A starter lock out is one of the causes why motorcycle engines won't start. Has this happened to you? How did you deal with it? Lastly, how can we prevent it?

Maximum number of people on a motorcycle

The motorcycle is primarily a one-person vehicle, right? Occasionally we let someone ride on the back. In the country I saw three persons on the bike and found it a bit shocking. Is there a rule that limits the number of people on a bike? If so, what's the penalty for violating it?

    Family Van on Gravel Road

Our van went through a lot of rough roads the past few days. The family and a number of relatives fill up all 14 seats. I wonder if vans in general can withstand the punishment. What's the next best thing to do once relatives leave?

How often should you change break pads?

Break pads wear out in time because of the constant contact with the wheels. In fact, it "grinds" itself on the wheel. Yet I don't seem to see any recommendation on how often it should be replaced. What happens is we wait til the breaks squeak before we take a look.
