Age of a tire

There's an easy way to spot the age of a tire when shopping for new tires. Look on the sidewall and you'll see something that has a combination of letters and numbers. The last four numbers are the week and year the tire was made.

So if the last four numbers are 2611, then the tires were made during the 11th week of 2011. Rubber does dry out and become brittle over time so make sure you are getting the newest tires possible and not something that's been sitting in the warehouse for years.

Nice tip. I remember seeing something about aging tires on a tv a few years back. Next time I buy new tires, I'll have to check their age so I know what I'm buying.
