Age of Transmission

I've heard that most transmissions in both cars and trucks will need to be serviced at around 200,000 miles regardless of how well you keep your vehicle maintained. Is there any truth to that?

I am not sure. I've always heard that manual transmissions will last longer than automatics, so I wonder which type of transmission that guideline refers to.

I would think that automatics would last longer because there is more involved with the manuals. More in the sense that the driver has to do the shifting.

Unfortunately, I had to have my rebuilt at the first of the year, so I can't prove or disprove your theory. Mine had about 111,000 miles on it at the time.

The shifting still occurs in an automatic; it's just that the driver doesn't do it. I really don't know the reasoning behind manual transmissions supposedly lasting longer, though.
