Where to stay while touring on your bike

I'm sure if any of you have been touring around on your bikes for more than a few years, you will remember back to the times when most 1st and 2nd grade hotels wouldn't take bikers. As I tour in areas which are very very country, it took a little longer for bikers to be accepted at resorts and upscale hotels. Now hoteliers are coming to realize that the biking hobby has spread well into the mainstream.

Are the areas you've toured in as accepting?

I generally only want to stay in places that welcome bikers anyway, when I've joined friends for this kind of thing. I find the types of places that are more welcoming to us are just more fun and have more interesting characters.

I had forgotten those interesting characters. You are right tuner. Thinking of all the really interesting people I met while staying in small motels, and eating in local diners and truck stops, does make up for any loss in comfort. Maybe I'll stick to those.
