    India's Auto-Rickshaws

I've never been in one of those machines, but I have seen pictures. Considering the heat in some areas of India, and the lack of air-conditioning in most taxis, I would think the ventilation (no doors) of these vehicles must be nice. Although according to friend of mine, the traffic jams are...

    Chain stores, which is best?

I live in Canada, and I think the best is Canadian Tire. I'm not as knowledgeable about performance parts but I use them to do all my general maintenance, including changing mufflers, break linings, and fluid, oil changes, tire changes etc.

People Forget How to Drive in Snow

If you live in a climate that has all four seasons, you may have noticed this phenomenon. On the first snow day, whether it is in November, December or January, there are always multitudes of people who have forgotten how to drive in snow. When the snow flies for the first time each year, the...

    Dealer keys?

I wasn't aware that most new cars won't start without a special key that has a chip. Can you purchase more keys for your car that will start the motor? I have a second set, but I wonder now, as my car was bought used, if that set is really a working set or not.

When would you rent a car?

We only rent if one of us is required to drive a long distance for work purposes. Other than that, we use our own cars to drive everywhere. Long distance with children, should not be attempted in someone else car.

    Chevrolet Volt

I wish I lived in one of the initial introduction areas for new car. It sounds really great for driving in city conditions. From what I have been reading, it is supposed to be released this month in California, Washington DC, Michigan, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Austin, Texas...

Replace the Muffler - OED or Service Station

It is the local service station for me. I have a North American made car, so I guess I expect the local service stations should naturally have the right parts, or be able to order them.

Do you eat in your car?

The Drive-Thru can be a killer, especially with the kids. We always have a bag going of things to be tossed or recycled on long drives. We have a rule that if you bring something in, you had to take it out.

    Electric car plugs

Similar to an ever expanding number of people, I live in a condo with an underground garage. I see in the future, each parking spot, will have its own recharger plug. Things will, be different; but it will take legislation to get it to really explode. Look at the recycling movement, and how...

    How to aim a headlight

That is a great link, I always wondered how to aim a headlight. Some years ago, I worked with a group of specialists from England. One of them was moving to France, to work at that office. I asked him about whether he would have to get a new car. (For those that don't know, the English drive...

    Car repossession

I had a room-mate who had his car repossessed. I think the finance company will try anything they can to get their money, without taking the car. Repossessing the car is a pain to most of them. My friend hadn't paid in about 8 months, and he was driving without insurance. I didn't know about...

    New Baby Car Seat

Sharky, what a great idea you've given me. I had not thought of trying out the floor model of several types. I really want to get a very safe model, but I also want it to be as easy as possible to put in and take out. Thanks.

    Salt

Salt is used a great deal in my area, but it makes such a difference in the number of accidents. I get the car waxed as well, and then I also always try to remove those, big snow, salt bundles that build up in the wheel-wells.

Original Manufacturers Parts or Generic Parts

When you are going to the service station to have your car fixed, do you insist on the original manufacturers parts, or are generic parts alright? I do both. I really trust my service station and if they tell me I can easily use generic parts then I do. What are your thoughts on this?

    Long Trips

We listen to audio-books mostly. We buy several before we leave for Florida at Christmas every year and we listen to them. We like to get the latest books, but I also found a group of Agatha Cristie radio shows from back in the 50s, and they are great fun. Actors play each part in character...

    Too Many Compartments?

This is an interesting thread to find just now. My glasses aren't strong enough in the bifocal department, so I was looking for some cheap reading glasses I bought a few years ago, and I know I put them somewhere. I'm going to go check the car and see if they are in one of it's many pockets...

    New Baby Car Seat

I'm about to add a new member to the family, and therefore, I need a baby car seat. I've read the rules on which type of seat to get, it has to be rear facing until the baby is 16kg. I want one that I can setup easily, but safely. I'm so confused about all the different types and makers...

At what point do you give up on your car?

Cars are really work cars for me. Therefore, I may have to give mine up before most car owners. I drive an Van which opens on both sides. I use it to carry Seniors around to various points of interest, the museum, to the Malls, to see the Leaves. We also take animals to the old age home...

Do You Buy Performance Parts for Your Daily Car?

We seem to have both sides of the topic represented in the previous replies. I can understand what you are saying vayacondios, but I just can't "racinze" (my word) up the car when I really can't use any of the products. It is also fairly into the country here, and those types of parts would...

    Roof Racks

It depends on the kind of car or SUV you have, but often the best racks are on the back of the car for bikes. Ski racks are usually on the top of the car. For bike racks I've seen some nice ones, ones that fit over the spare tire, or work of a hitch attachment. I'm sure they would all be...
